15/12/2009

Salahaddin, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (KRP.org) – Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani chaired a meeting today of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Council of Ministers to discuss the government’s efforts to provide services and projects for the people of the Region.

In today’s meeting, President Barzani reiterated that the KRG should be a government for all people, regardless of their political affiliations. “This government does not belong to any particular party or individual, it belongs to all the people of the Kurdistan Region. Kurdistan Region citizens must consider the KRG to be their government,” remarked the President.

The President urged the KRG Council of Ministers to attend to citizens' grievances and try to meet their expectations. “The KRG
Ministers should make themselves available to receive and listen to complaints from the citizens,” added the President. He particularly noted that citizens complain about the high prices for goods during festive seasons and urged the council of Ministers to try to put an end to this.

Prime Minister Barham Salih praised the President’s leadership and stressed that his support and guidance would be essential for
the success of his cabinet. He also paid tribute to the achievements by the former cabinet and vowed to carry on their work.

President Barzani and PM Barham Salih both emphasized the urgent need for transparency in government work and to fight corruption through the building of independent institutions. The President stressed that government-funded projects must be transparent and project tenders should be awarded to companies in a fair and transparent manner.

President Barzani once again called on the Council of Ministers to provide services for the people of Kirkuk and other areas, regardless of their ethnic or religious backgrounds.

The unification of Peshmerga and security forces, agricultural and rural development, as well as providing incentives for people
to return to their villages were among other topics discussed in today’s meeting. Several KRG Ministers contributed to the meeting with their comments and suggestions.
